Lynn C. is a reader of NYWhatToDo.com from Ontario, Canada. This is her review of the recent trip she made to New York City with her daughter.
This was my 2nd time to NYC (the first was 30+ years ago when I was a teenager – I saw the World Trade Center!). This time, it was a mother / daughter trip – her 1st time to New York City.
She took all of the pictures (and I’ve only seen the 3 pics she’s posted on Facebook so far!!)
What I Saw in New York City
We were part of a bus tour, so we didn’t really navigate around on our own too much. We had an escorted tour one day to see a number of key points of interest (saw a fair bit…), and the other day was up to us (which was long as we’d driven there overnight).
We managed just 4 events / sites on our own day – hop on-hop off to the financial district, Empire State Building, 3 hour boat tour around Manhattan (including Statue of Liberty / Liberty Island), Macy’s and the rest was walking around with one taxi ride.
We were not really interested in shopping as we were doing a stop at an outlet mall on the way back to Ontario.
Observations About the City
Only with the info from the speaker / guide on the hop on / hop off and the escorted 4+ hour tour did we learn a lot of neat facts / history about NYC. We couldn’t have possibly gained that much knowledge on our own – or even taken the time to find that info (that’s for the young and adventurous!)
Awesome place, but very expensive – too much $ to even imagine living there. I wish we would have had more time. I also hate crowds, so definitely not the spot for me!! I’ve also got a bad back and what walking we did practically killed me!
PS: I can only imagine that New Yorkers absolutely can’t stand all of the tourists! The few residents I encountered looked totally frustrated that they couldn’t get to where they wanted to go due to the number of “tourists” being in their way.
What I Didn’t Like About NYC
The only thing I would like to share – which I found disappointing – was the lack of places to rest when needed, and the lack of washroom facilities if you’re not a patron of an establishment.
And, definitely a tourist trap, almost anything you want to see costs money and of course, even more money if you want extras. But I’m sure that’s what’s needed to support and enhance the tourism industry.
Write Your Own Review
Have you been to New York City recently? Why not write a review of your trip at NYWhatToDo.com?
I live in the New York City area, and I write on the blog from that perspective. If you write from a tourist’s angle, your fellow readers would get to learn a lot from your experiences!
If you want to include your / your family’s / city’s pictures, it would be awesome! If you are not sure about writing, just pictures with captions are fine too.
As I said, your fellow readers would get to learn from your NYC experience, and you get an opportunity to publish on an established New York blog! I would be happy to link back to you blog or Facebook or twitter account if you wish.
