If you want to fully explore New York City, even a lifetime is not going to be enough. you have to live in the city to explore it to its fullest.
But for those of us not lucky enough to live in NYC, there are sights and attractions that are an absolute must-see while visiting New York City.
Here is a list of such attractions – you can plan your 1-day visit in such a way that you can cover the most of these!
Statue of Liberty
Any visit to New York City is incomplete without a picture with the Statue of Liberty! It is accessible only by ferries, and they start from the southern tip of Manhattan at Battery Park.
The ferry takes you to Liberty Island (that houses Statue of Liberty) and Ellis Island for a single ticket. But if you are in a rush, skip Ellis island – it is definitely a historical place, but not something you would want to visit if you want to see New York City in a day.
Better still, you can book the New York City Highlights Cruise in advance through Viator – you would not have to waste time standing in a line to buy tickets. And apart from the Statue of Liberty, you would also get to see the famous New York City Skyline and other NYC attractions like the South Street Seaport, Brooklyn Bridge, etc.
Empire State Building
This is an absolute must see! You get a full 360 degrees, unobstructed panoramic view of the whole New York City from its observatory.
Empire State Building also has a thrilling ride called Skyride. But again, if you are in a hurry, you can skip it – Skyride is not something you want to see if you want to see New York City in one day.
Your best option is to book Empire State Building observatory admission ticket with “skip the line” feature through Viator. Normally, there is a line not just for buying the admission tickets, but also at the elevators (there are two of them) – and you save time at each by skipping the line!
Times Square
The energy, the crowds, the illumination at Times Square are simply unmatched! This is a spot you HAVE to visit if you are in New York City.
If you are short on time, visit Times Square after dark – it is at its best during night.
Broadway Shows
A visit to NYC is incomplete without watching at least one of the world famous Broadway musicals. You can book tickets to Broadway musicals in advance, so that you are not disappointed at the last minute.
Some of the most popular Broadway musicals are:
- The Lion King
- Mama Mia!
- Wicked
- Mary Poppins
- Phantom of the Opera
- Chicago
- Memphis
- Spider Man
- Jersey Boys
- Billy Elliot
