The USS Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum was first founded in 1982.  The museum was closed in 2006 for two years. On November 8, 2008, after an extensive two year renovation, the visitors were again being welcomed at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum.

After the World Trade Center attacks on 9th September in 2001, USS Intrepid was used as a transitory field headquarters for the FBI while it began its inquiry. It was also used in the film “I Am Legend” in 2007.
