About Fulton Fish Market

Original Brooklyn Bridge Location of the Fulton Fish Market

Fulton Fish Market is situated in The Bronx, New York. Till recently, it was a wing of the Fulton Market (near the Brooklyn Bridge, above Fulton Street in Lower Manhattan) that was founded in 1822 to sell a variety of foodstuffs and produce. The Fulton Fish Market relocated to a new locale at Hunts Point in the Bronx in November 2005.

The Fulton Fish Market has been the most important wholesale fish market on the East coast throughout its 183 year history. In 1822, when it was opened, it was the preferred unloading spot for fishing boats from across the Atlantic Ocean.

The wholesalers at the Fulton Fish Market sell the fish to various restaurateurs and retailers that purchase fresh fish of every possible variety.

What to See at Fulton Fish Market

At its new location in the Bronx, the market transacts in millions of pounds of seafood every day, and its yearly sales exceed $1 Billion – it is second only to Tokyo’s Tsukiji fish market! The U.S. Government tracks and reports fish prices at the Fulton Fish Market.

The market employs about 650 workers.

Large restaurants, retail buyers, chefs from the NY area as well as some of Manhattan’s most prestigious chefs come to the Fulton Fish Market in the early morning hours to find the day’s catch of fresh seafood.
